Virginia Ward

Virginia Ward has been working the multiple and the discard for over 40 years. Factory offcuts have been a staple in my sculptures. Now they are my inspiration to create a visually resonating imagery that explores the creation of language.

I use the offcuts and discards from human industry, to create apparent patterns. I draw around the shapes then paint them in water colour, delving into the multi-layered geometry. exploring all the visual possibilities of language formation though illusion using space, shape, colour, and the significance of application and materials.

The image on the left is of the shapes that I use to create ‘Wallpaper’. They are left over from the making of ukulele, mandolin and guitars by Scott Wise. They are the Not Instruments.
